Self-Help Books

I’ve heard a lot of people speak negatively about self-help books. The thing I hear often is “I’m not going to read this, this stuff is common sense”. Yet they are miserable and they don’t apply these common sense techniques to their lives that could help them. Sometimes, we allow events in the world to affect us to the point where we naturally go against our common sense. This is not always done consciously. We tend to use quick fixes or we act without thinking. This causes us to feel confused, incomplete, incompetent, and unhappy.
Most books aren’t telling you things you don’t already know. They are just telling you how to make life easier, and how to be happier. These books are really made to help us feel hopeful and change our outlook on life. By reading them you get a chance to see life from a different perspective in order to be replenished.
Self-help books are a guide on how to get the most out of your life. They aren’t books you read through and then never pick back up again. They are to be used as a reference point whenever you need them. When you read a book that changes your life in a positive manner, if you ever get to a low point in your life, you can pick it up again. Everything you learned and applied once before will come back to you, and you will be able to capture that amazing feeling once again.
