Many awful things have happened to us in the past. We shouldn’t use what happened in the past as an excuse for us having a horrible future. We are not in control of the past, so changing it is not an option. We have to realize the only thing we can control and change is the present. We must do our best in the present in order to have a better future.
To stay motivated today, we have to make the choice to analyze the positive and the negative from the past. First, you should figure out what went wrong in the past and what you can do to prevent it from ever happening in the future. Then, you have to figure out what you can do to build on the positive things from the past. You will be happier in your present situation and your future will be brighter.
Let’s say you had very low self-esteem when you were a child due to weight issues. This caused you to go through depression and reach the lowest point in your life. The goal is to never feel those horrible feelings again and to fall in love with yourself. You do this by controlling what you eat today. Exercising when you don’t feel like it, because you know that by doing so, you will never be in that horrific place in your life again.
So make the choice not to use the past as an excuse. Use the past to motive you now and change your future.
